I’ve learned a lot since I decided to let go the idea that I have to get a job again.
I stopped looking for a job and accepted the fact that employers are just not interested in people my age (Baby Boomers). Despite all my 37 years of experience and the education I have had.
This “letting go” gave me such a relaxed feeling. I felt no stress anymore.
My mind became ready for new things. I started to sleep better and I feel so grateful for what I do have now and I enjoy learning new stuff.
Some of the books I’m using to help me change my mindset are books I had never heard of before.
The classics are:
– “As a man Thinketh” by James Allen
– “Think & Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill
– “How to Win friends and Influence people” by Dale Carnegie
– “The Science of Getting Rich”; by Wallace D.Wattles
And of course “The Secret” About The Law of Attraction and
“You were born Rich” by Bob Proctor.
And for the update of my financial education, coming from the entrepreneurial mindset
I’ve read some books written by Robert Kiyosaki. like ;
– “Rich Dad Poor Dad”
– “Cashflow Quadrant”
– “Business school for People who like helping people”.
And then the book “Influence” by Robert B. Cialdini. (You need to know at least the basics of marketing if you want to have a business.)
I can not mention all the books about the industry I’ve chosen to get involved in. Here is not the place to do that.
I know that- knowing something and know of something are not the same.
But I figure I have to become knowledgeable and learn the basics of anything I decide I want to do. And also get the skills I lack for doing what has to be done in order to have success.
If you become knowledgeable you don’t need opinions of others to make your decisions.
Opinions of others are not the facts.
In the book Think & Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill writes something in the chapter “Decision” that I have seen so many people quote in their article.
I could so relay to that. But now I know better.
I want to close this post with that quote:

Yes, I have participated in both of those forums. I’ve been a member of the Sher boards for about ten years and the newer 4HWW since it started but not too many posts in that one. I believe my forum time has decreased since I signed up for Twitter several months ago!
That quote at the end is a very true one. Not too long after I read it, I walked past a man with very bad parenting skills which only reflected his own very low values. Instructing a small child that it’s okay kick an animal is the kind of training that can lead to no good. What a sad childhood.
Leigh Anne, When I decided that I would stop expecting to get a job again so I wouldn’t be disappointed and doubting my self if I was worth anything on the market place anymore and decided to start doing Network Marketing I noticed how this “other people’s opinions” thing had an impact on me.
I was conditioned to be an employee and I had been that and didn’t imagine myself doing something else.
When people I thought were friends, started to give their negative opinions and warning me about my decision, this raised my awareness about this problem I had.
As I said in my post I’ve seen different people repeat that quote of Napoleon Hill, from his book “Think and Grow Rich”.
Apparently there are many people with this problem.
When a person makes the step from “I was conditioned to…” over to “I believed, I thought” etc that is a big leap and a powerful one. “I was conditioned to…” is passive [someone else did it] and “I believed, I thought” is active and expresses ownership of self. Are you there?
From there you can always change your mind. This step is never ending as we are always taking in new information and situations and conditions are always changing.

I’ve ghostwritten a few hypnosis e-books for others, and the experts all discuss how much damage our parents and others accidentally do by voicing negative things to us, thinking they’re funny and innocent. It can take us decades to “undo” that negative conditioning (i.e., subconscious bad brainwashing).
We each have everything it takes to write our own success and destiny. Here’s to turning a deaf ear and making awesome things happen through the power of positive energy and imagination! 😉

Letting go is one of the most important breakthroughs anyone can achieve. Especially the idea of letting go of your fear of loss.
One of my favourite quotations is “Blessed are they who expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed.”
As a young man I thought it was a cynical joke. Later, I realised that it had a more profound meaning.
It’s actually a practical application of letting go — and becoming unconditional in my mindset, attitudes and behaviour.
It was a turning point that led to my present state of gratitude, generosity and happiness.

A couple of days a go a read a post on F/B saying that the majority of people were not interested in owning their own business.
I wondered about this and felt it must be a cultural thing. I’m sure that in some cultures owning a successful (small) business would be the pinnacle of success. The escape from the slavery of a job and subservience to others. It might be assumed that the rejection of the self-employment/business option is more a feature of the advanced Western nations, I could be wrong, but that is the impression I get, when considering say the Asians or the sub-continent.
My rationalization on this is –
1. the Western education system ans society are set up to condition people to prepare for and seek employment (a JOB) and to plan their life round, qualifications, a secure job, saving for retirement (see Robert Kiyosaki “Conspiracy of the Rich” ,
2. employment conditions and remuneration has been made just sufficient to make it seem attractive and the way to go

About the post you read on F/B; I can tell you that the majority of people around me are not interested in owning their own business either.
And I can tell you why even when they don’t have a job and it doesn’t look like they can expect a job soon, they still prefer not to take the risk to start their own business, because by doing that they will lose their social or unemployment safety net they have. And because of their perspective regarding owning a business.
And especially with network marketing where the ROI in general means, first investing lots of time, energy and learning before you start earning enough income that you can live from. I’m talking about most cases here.
These people don’t think about owning a business as being free. They associate it with having to take a Bank loan. They think that you’ll need a building to run your business from etc.
I can talk about my own situation. Network Marketing is relatively new in the Netherlands. It’s not easy to set it up and grow a team. I live in the Country side in a small village without much financial resources to travel to meet people.
You can not change people’s mind for them, they have to want to change the way they think. Our beliefs are what make us what we are.
Most of my working life, I’ve worked in an Accounting department and I’ve been responsible for the payroll for 21 years. I have studied Human Resources. The financial world is not completely strange to me and I know a thing or two about employee and employers relations and the social laws in the Netherlands. Believe me we have quite some social and enployment laws here in the Netherlands.

Hi Deana – looks as though you had a technical glitch, resulting in duplication too LOL.
I understand what you are saying – effectively we are saying the same things. Individual initiative and responsibility has or is being replaced by a dependency on the job market and social security. Effectively society is moving to risk aversion, if you like like a flock pf sheep being lead out to pasture, under the watchful eye if the Shepherd. This makes life easier for society and people have the illusion of contentment.
They don’t understand that the greatest risk they face is lost opportunities for wealth and happiness. Looking at the status of people now dependent of unemployment pay or aged pension – not much more than subsistance, sure they get by but no real quality of life.
We have a number of messages to get out –
1. the geater risk is in missing opportunities – not in accepting them
2. that MLM is a low investment and low risk business opportunity
3. that its possible and vital for them to start building their business within hours of starting out. Simple system, no protracted training – idealy they can generate their first business on their first day, out.
4. that its quite possible for them to cover their initial investment and show 100s of % profit in the first few weeks – they just need the drive.

PS – to comment on your situation MLM is a global market. You live in the Netherlands – but your business does not have to be there – there are probably better places to be. Probably cultures with a greater respect for sersonal businesses and less dependance on government support. With the internet and communications being what they are is feasible to promote and support people round the world, with the right vehicle. If fact Ed Lubrok promotes the view that you can only really succeed by mastering the longe distance promotion, you don’t do it based on your home area.

I think a lot of people would want to do that too, but it’s too scary for them – especially with bills to pay. The thought of being homeless because they get too far behind with the rent makes them cling to a job that hate.
Yes Hayvley, I think a lot of people fear to take risks.
But we have to fear the fear itself, because fear can stop us from doing what we really want to do.

I love this post and I love your blog Deana! That quote at the end by Napolean Hill was SO TRUE. And when you wrote about the “letting go”, I can so relate. I’m working on that myself. I’ve worked for many years in corporate jobs back home and now that I’m living in this new place physically, I’m embracing living in this new place in my life with what I want to do in my life now. I’m having a bit of a shift 🙂 And that’s a great thing.
Deana, I have read the first blog and this one on the best books. We have so much in common. I am 72 and legally blind but want to stay active and young as long as I can. Napoleon Hill is the best method. He has taught me how to think. That is so important that it is not what to think but how to think.
We do a chapter a week and discuss it on Mental Clease. This has helped me to get in touch with me. That one thing is the best gift I have ever received. The quote you mentioned in your blog by Napoleaon Hill is so true. The negative things others say to us about us seems to stay longer than the positive things that are said. In our group, we are asked to find our Why. The Why is why were created? What purpose does God have for us here on earth? I just discovered my Why after months of thinking about it. It came to me one morning and I feel my Why is to help others find the goodness in theirself. The reason and conclusion I came to this was, when I was a teenager, my best friends told me the reason no one liked me was because I was to good to others. Trying to find acceptance, I turned to Alcohol so I could be the person that I thought others would like. I really did not like myself but I thought others would like me. The alcohol nearly destroyed my life, marriage and many other things. I quit drinking about 30 years ago and have been working on me since that time. The MFF group has helped me to truly find me and love me for myself. I know this can sound selfish but it really isn’t because I found out that you must love yourself in order to love others.
I just wanted to share a little about me. You sound just like a person I would love to be friends with. I am unable to call the Netherlands but I thought we could communicate by email.
Success in 10 steps is a great ebook and it is just a start. We have other training and skill calls that are on audio. This is another site that I think you would like. It is called the Positive and Negative Effects on a drop of water. This site was done as a project to see the response. He speaks both negative and positive words over the same drop of water and you can see the difference in the pictures. Keep in mind, our bodies are made up of 70 percent water so it is understandable how the negative and positive words and actions can affect us.

The shifting economic winds indeed has an inpact on many babyboomers and will have on many more as this impacts my own live.
The Baby Boomers, being the largest generation and in general living longer, and getting older than the previous generations, need to realize that we are now linving in a new Era; the Information Era, and they were mostly prepaired and conditioned to function in the Industrial Era, which we’re leaving behind us.
I intend to tell my own story, my journey. so you will, in this blog.
The new way of thinking to become the person I need to be to become to think innovative, independent ways to earn a living. (As you put it.)

Hi MItchel, With all respect, I don’t think money force us to do any of the things you just mentioned in your comment. It’s up to us to decide what we do or don’t do. We are responsable for our actions. I think I can understand why you say this. I was also raised with these beliefs about money and more of these negative things.
But I refuse to believe that now.
I know that if I keep these negative beliefs I grew up hearing, I will never be able to attract the kind of money that can change my life and permit me to do all I want.
It’s important that I believe that money is on it’s way to me. I think I deserve it. I have to take the actions to get it to me.
